Many people look towards the HGV driving industry for a career given the flexible working hours and that on average the annual salary is in excess of the national average.
Before you can take your HGV driving test you will have needed to pass the HGV theory test beforehand. This theory test is similar in a way to the normal driving theory test in that you will have both a multiple choice section and a hazard perception section. However, there are 100 questions in the multiple choice part of the theory test and in the hazard perception section you will need to score 67 to obtain a pass. As a result of this, the test is somewhat harder than the normal driving theory test. Both the multiple choice and hazard perception sections need to be passed at the same time e.g. at the same sitting. You cannot pass one part of the test and re-take the other part at a later date.
Once you have passed the HGV theory test you can then apply for the HGV practical driving test and only on passing that will you receive your HGV licence. However, before taking your practical test you will need to undertake HGV training for an HGV vehicle. There are many companies around that will provide this training for a suitable fee. You may may find a company that is prepared to sponsor you i.e. pay for your training, although you will likely be tied into a contract for a term to remain with that company once you have passed your HGV driving test.
